Ford decided that the Escape would fare better being powered exclusively by gas-powered engines. This wasn’t a bad call on Ford’s part. Both the 1.6 and 2.0-litre EcoBoost motors are peppy and offer good fuel consumption. With no Hybrid for the Escape, buyers will have to instead opt for the 2013 Ford C-Max (pictured), a sort of four-door compact minivan. Though C-Max may not feature the outgoing Escape’s boxy lines, it gets notably better gas mileage (4.3 L/100 km average) than its closest competitor, the Prius V. What’s more, it’ll cost thousands less than the Escape Hybrid.
